Your Southeast Calgary Choice for Dental Hygiene and Teeth Cleanings!

Dental Hygiene & Teeth Cleanings | Evershine Dental Care | Family & General Dentist | SE Calgary

Healthy teeth and gums are the starting point of a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. That is why Evershine Dental Care is pleased to offer dental hygiene and teeth cleaning appointments to help you achieve optimal oral health. While regular home care is extremely important, it only focuses on areas of teeth above the gum line (called scaling). A professional dental cleaning can not only clean teeth above the gum line, but also below the gum line as well (called root planing). It is only through regular scaling AND root planing that plaque, tartar, and bacteria can be properly removed from hard to reach places below the gum line that home care is unable to reach. Regular professional cleanings can help keep teeth and gums healthy from top to bottom. Let Evershine Dental Care help you achieve optimal oral health and wellness, with regular dental hygiene and teeth cleaning appointments.

What Happens at a Dental Hygiene and Teeth Cleaning Appointment?

Dental Hygiene & Teeth Cleanings | Evershine Dental Care | Family & General Dentist | SE Calgary
  • A complete and thorough periodontal assessment
  • A complete checkup of your gum tissue, including checking for any gum recession, the presence of gingivitis, and possible gum disease
  • An intra-oral exam to check the gum tissue, tongue, and lips for confirmation of health
  • Scaling, which is a process of deep cleaning to remove tartar (calculus), plaque, and bacteria from teeth above and below the gum line, so your gums and bone that make up the foundation of your teeth remain healthy and disease free
  • Polishing to remove stains from your teeth
  • Fluoride treatment (if desired)
    • After your dental cleaning, you will be provided with the option to receive fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps strengthen the enamel (outer layer of your teeth) and prevent cavities
  • And oral cancer screening
    • At each visit we will make our best efforts to screen your oral tissues (including the head, neck, and jaw area) for confirmation of health and signs of oral cancer. The goal is to identify mouth cancer in its earliest stages or even before it turns into cancer, when there is a better chance for treatment and cure
  • Digital X-rays when required
    • Radiology helps detect cavities in between the teeth, assess bone levels, and detect other problems of the oral cavity. Your dentist will decide what type of images you need and how often you need them based on your oral health. Research has shown that radiation received from digital X-ray machines is less than the radiation you receive from natural background sources. Evershine Dental Care makes sure to follow the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle; we avoid exposure to radiation that does not have a direct benefit to you, even if the dose is small.
  • Sealants (if chosen)
    • Sealants are protective coatings that are applied on deep grooves of back teeth in order to prevent cavity formation in the future. Sealant application is an easy, quick, and painless procedure

How Often Should You Visit Us For An Oral Hygiene and Teeth Cleaning Visit?

Dental Hygiene | Evershine Dental Care | Family & General Dentist | SE Calgary

Evershine Dental Care recognizes that each patient will require a different hygiene and cleaning schedule, depending on their individual circumstances. Most patients come in for a dental hygiene appointment and teeth cleaning every 6 months, although some may benefit from coming in every 3-4 months, while others may be able to visit every 9-12 months. Home-care, genetics, grinding habits, and the position of teeth are all key factors in determining the best oral hygiene and cleaning schedule for each patient. For those experiencing gum disease, loose teeth, heavy staining, or heavy calculus buildup, a higher frequency of cleaning will keep teeth healthier. We will discuss with you how often you should visit us for a dental hygiene checkup and/or teeth cleaning appointment based on your individual and specific needs.
